The paper evaluates the level of competition on the vegetable market. Based on the analysis of the production development trends and resource potential, dynamics and ratio of export and import of agricultural products, including vegetables are presented; dynamics of self-sufficiency ratio of these products is studied; challenges of food security and competitive advantages of Georgian vegetables are identified.The article concludes that the country has a significant potential for exporting vegetables both to the countries of Europe and Middle East. The paper discusses the factors that hinder export of vegetables; in addition, the ways for reducing dependency on seasonality, opportunities for the development of modern greenhouses and mechanisms for supplying goods to customers all year round are suggested.On the basis of analyzing the level of competition on the vegetable market, vegetable business is considered as monopolistic. In addition, it is calculated that, currently, local vegetables products account for only 75% of the market.The paper evaluates the outcomes of high market power caused by monopoly in vegetable business; the impact of market power on pricing mechanism and the welfare of population is determined. In accordance with the problems identified, conclusions are made and recommendations for solving these problems are suggested.
The article substantiates the importance of the development of food markets in the solution of food security problem. It is argued that the tendency of demand for food has an increasing trend and the development of food markets still remains one of the most important challenges of contemporary world. The study analyzes the markets of Georgian agro- food products and studies the modern challenges in these markets. Comparative analysis of Georgian and Spanish food markets is conducted. The article estimates the positive and negative trends of export of Georgian agro-food products as well as the possibilities of diversification of products in the food markets. According to “The Impact-Immediacy” matrix the hindering factors of Georgian agro products export are identified. Using the «Priority Scheme» the priorities of economic policy stimulating the export of agro-food products are revealed. In terms of geographical orientation of the export the possibilities of diversification of food markets are discussed, especially in European markets. The conclusion is made that, in general, European food market is characterized by the growing tendency. However, in these markets there is no similar tendency for Georgian agro-food products. According to the study of the share of Georgian products and export growth rates in different countries the positive correlation between these variables is determined. But this circumstance is not considered to be sufficient for the positive impact on the economic growth. The conclusion is made that using effective mechanisms of export stimulation allows the diversification of export of Georgian agro products on the traditional but growing food markets on the one hand and on the other hand the expansion of geographical area of export markets.
The work deals with the need to substantiate topicality of research of grocery market and key directions of development of agriculture. The conclusion is made which states that the level of productivity in Georgian agriculture is low. Based on the analysis, causes of low productivity of the industry and low level of development of grocery markets is assessed: low level of competitiveness of agricultural products, impediments for Georgian products to enter grocery markets, underdeveloped grocery supply chain, absence of usage of modern technologies and technological opportunities in agricultural sector, small share in the budget for funding agriculture, incomplete and ambiguous regulatory laws, low level of compatibility with legislation of international markets, underdeveloped system of insurance in agriculture etc. Strengths and weaknesses of development of Georgian agriculture are revealed through SWOT analysis, as well as opportunities and threats. Factors of low pace in development of agriculture and limited opportunities for farmers on grocery markets are determined by the "quality of urgency-impact" matrix, by using the scheme of priorities, needs of priority development of agriculture are revealed. Conclusions and recommendations are suggested as a result of the research concerning current challenges of grocery markets and needs of priority development of Georgian agriculture.
Introduction. Historically, agriculture has been a traditional sector for Georgia and the country has favorable natural and resource potential for its development. However, the rate of development of this sector has been below the corresponding indicators of the other sectors of the economy for many years, the level of self-sufficiency for local agricultural products is low, the import of food products exceeds export by four times on average and therefore, the country faces serious challenges in this regard. So in the paper discusses about the agro-food products in Georgia and its export potential in order to reveal the relevant export stimulation economic policy as the country has the rich natural resources to develop and export. Aim and tasks. The purpose of the research is to develop the recommendations for the export stimulating economic policy based on the assessment of the agro-food products and export potential in Georgia. Results. The economic influence of stimulating export and importing the economy is assessed by the justification of the positive influence of international trade on the development of the agro-food sector. The article studies the determinants of innovative marketing in agribusiness. It is proved the role of innovative marketing in elaborating export strategy of agro-food products in the international markets. Based on bibliographic research and empirical materials, the possibility of diversification of production and export of agro-food products is revealed. Conclusions. In the agricultural sector of Georgia in recent years there has been a tendency to increase production; however, the volume of import still significantly exceeds export. It is believed that export diversification will enable Georgia to overcome the limited market capabilities and promote productivity. To achieve these goals, the use of relevant stimulating economic policy tools is offered: subsidizing export; export credits; optimization of trade barriers; effective management of exchange courses; export insurance; offering the special financial services and more.
In the present paper is analysed opinions about the tools for sustainable development and the ways to reduce inequality. Has been estimated the importance of regional development programs and strategies as the settlement of the economic and social issues, provided proof of their role in the effective development of regional economic policy. Has been determined the concentration level of economic activity by regions using distribution index to estimate equal development of regions. Has been made the conclusion that none of the regions of Georgia is notably specialized. The concentration level of business sectors in regions is substantiated by the distribution curve. In distribution curve was considered retail and wholesale distribution, as an example of maximally near to ideal distribution. It is proved by the analysis of distribution of curves, that the concentration level of business sectors in Georgian regions is quite unequal and none of them could be highlighted in industry specialization. The paper identifies the problems related to sustainable and equal development of regions, provided conclusions and recommendations to settle the mentioned issue by their estimation. In the process of study has been determined the factors of endogenous development of regions and advisable to improve the quality and efficiency of regional development institutions through the development of trial-programs for regional development.
