Learning vocabulary is the important aspect for the students when they are studying English. The students need fresh method to make them enjoy in learning process. The teacher should be able to deliver the material well. Using media appropriately is also needed for teachers. The objectives of this research are to know whether English song can improve the students' vocabulary at the second semester of English education study program in University of Muhammadiyah Metro, to reveal whether English song English song influence the students' motivation at the second semester of English education study program in learning process, to portray how much English song influence the students' vocabulary mastery and students' motivation at the second semester of English education study program in academic year 2015/2016 The population in this research is 40 students. It is consist 2 classes and each class consists of 20 students..The result of the data analysis proved that the value of t-test (tobs is 8,742 and ttable is 2,021). It means that tobs is higher than ttable(8,742>2,021). Based on the criteria for testing hypothesis was if the value of t obtained is higher than t table at significant level 0,05 the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and hypothesis alternative (HI) is accepted. After viewing the result of One Sample t-test, the writer came to conclusion that "there was significant Influence of English Song Toward Students' Vocabulary Mastery and students' motivation at the second semester of English education Study Program in the Muhammadiyah University of Metro Academic Year 2015/2016".
This research examines the interpersonal meaning in Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY)’s speech. This is based on the details of speech or writing to define an investigation. The object of this research is the used moods and modality types in interpersonal meaning of SBY’s speech under the title “Toward Harmony among Civilizations” by Dr.Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. The aims of this research are (1) to observe the mood and modality types used in SBY’s speech, (2) to observe the dominant mood and modality types in SBY’s speech, (3) to describe the interpersonal meaning in case of mood and modality types in SBY’s speech. The main sources of data in this study are taken from the SBY’s speech at the John F. Kennedy School of Government Harvard University summit on September 29 th, 2009, in Boston, USA. The data then are classified and collected in tabulation. This paper is based on the discourse analysis and systemic functional linguistics approach by Halliday. The writer analyses the speeh by SBY mainly from the interpersonal meaning which focuses on the mood and modality types. The results of this research are (1) there are two mood types in interpersonal meaning of SBY’s speech namely indicative and imperative type, (2) the dominant mood in SBY’s speech is the indicative type which is declarative with the total number of 97 clauses or around 95%, while the dominantly used modality is “can”. In addition, the overall dominant modality type exists in median degree modality with the total percentage 40,6%, and (3) the researcher discovers the different mood and modality that might affect the value of the speech to the audience.
:Vocabulary is one aspects in reading comprehension. By having a lot vocabulary, the students understand in reading comprehension. The interest in English also gives effect of students mastery in English. Before the students start to read they are must be interested in English first. Reading is one of skills in English that very essential for the students, because by reading the students can get information from the text. In this research the researcher focoses on reading comprehension in descriptive text. The problems formulation in this research are;(1) How far is the students score of ability in vocabulary mastery toward reading comprehension in descriptive text? (2) How far is the students score of ability in students interest in English toward reading comprehension in descriptive text? (3) How far is the correlation between students' score of vocabulary mastery and students interest in English toward reading comprehension in descriptive text?. The objective of the research are; (1) To identify the students' score in vocabulary mastery toward reading comprehension in descriptive text. (2) To identify the students' score in students interest in English toward reading comprehension in descriptive text. (3) To find out how far the correlation between students' score of vocabulary mastery and students interest in English toward reading compregension in descritive text.Theresearch was conducted at the second semester of Muhammadiyah University Students in Academic Year 2014/2015. The population of this research was 127 students. The researcher used cluster ramdom sampling in taking sample. In collecting the data the researcher used test and questionnarie, namely vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension in descriptive text. In questionnarie used to students interest in English and in analyzing the data, the researcher used Product Moment Formula.After analyzing the data by using the correlation product moment and Regression Linearity Test, the researcher gets the result of based on the calculation, it is found that: 1) of r = 0,45 (X1 and Y). 2) 0,61 (X2 and Y). 3) 0,98 (X1, X2 and Y). The hypothesis can be accepted because tratio = 4,3 and tdaf = 2,04. It means that tratio>tdaf and Ha is accepted because there is positif and significant correlation between students' vocabulary mastery and their interest in English toward reading comprehension in descriptive text.
