In the course of investigations (Goldman, et at., Rockwell ci at., in press) on the mechanisms of the bites of various arthropods in the skin of man, histo.. pathologic study of the area of the bite was found to be an important part of the work. The clinical reaction to such a bite can be characterized usually as a local ized area exhibiting redness, swelling, heat, itching and pain in varying degrees of intensity.
