This report focuses on the preparation of conceptual flow sheets, including major equipment lists, and a survey of equipment availability for future coal conversion plant.handling and preparation and ash/slag removal operations. The project was initiated and work performed under the auspices of the Fossil Fuel Processing Division of the Department of Energy and under the guidance of James L. Powell and T. K. Lau. The authors thank the many equipment industry personnel who gave their time and effort to reply to our equipment survey questionnaires and phone requests and those who met with us to discuss equipment availability and problems. Without their cooperation, this report would not have been possible. We also express our appreciation to those people of the Coal Technology Department of Bechtel National, Inc., for their cooperation and contributions to this report. Our thanks go also to the many people in the Union Carbide Corporation Nuclear Division who have provided assistance in the typing and editing of this document.
