The effects of gastric tube replacement have been studied experimentally in dogs. A gastric tube can replace the lower oesophagus and, if maintained 2.5-6 cm below the diaphragm, will prevent reflux.
The gastric tube acts as a pressure barrier which is imporrant in the preuention of reflux. Myotomy of the tube lowers the pressure barrier and allows free reflux.Atropine decreases the pressure within the gastric tube and gastrin increases the pressure within the tube.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
