In this way the simple procedure of assessing susceptibility in newly joined men was denied, and prophylaxis was confined to early diagnosis-i.e., observation of the initial and evanescent symptoms, and early patch-testing. The most effective prophylactic measure, entailing much labour, time, and untold difficulties, besides problems of rubber supply, is naturally the recall of all potentially harmful masks and their replacement by innocuous varieties.
