The study of tools from four Late Neolithic sites of Deûle valley (Nord-Pas-de-Calais) is addressed in order to identify the “ chaînes opératoires” implemented since the acquisition of raw materials to processing and / or consumption through the various stages of processing materials involved. Combination of paleo-environmental data with results of technological and functional analysis conducted on stone, animal materials or clay tools allows to define some of the activities on these sites and to discuss concept of tools interactivity. According to preliminary results, exploitation of plant resources appears to be of particular importance in this context.
Between 1993 and 1995 the Arbon-Bleiche 3 (TG) site, located south-east of Lake Constance (Switzerland), yielded rich, abundant and remarkably preserved remains. Associated with a unique level of occupation, these remains provide an opportunity to study the activity of a neolithic village destroyed when still in full development. Burnt after 15 years of occupation, the village was definitively abandoned in 3370 ВС. Many artefacts and textile remains have been discovered, however the spindle-whorls drew the most attention. Admirably preserved, they are the most important series discovered for this period and highlight an often neglected aspect of the textile industry: spinning.
