Utilizing the complexity and good pseudorandom property of the spatiotemporal chaotic system, a novel image encryption algorithm is proposed. The plain-image block data is masked by the values extracted from the spatiotemporal chaotic system. Then the masked data is shuffled according to the maximum state value in the system. A cipher block chaining (CBC) mode is employed to adjust the state value of the spatiotemporal chaotic system, which makes the orbits of the spatiotemporal chaotic system depend on the plain-image as well as the initial state values. It further improves the security of the algorithm. Theoretical analysis and computer simulations both show that the proposed algorithm has good security for practical image encryption.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
