Over the last decade, studies on New France have been enhanced by the use of linguistic manuscripts-texts, grammars, dictionaries-that describe Native languages. Although the use of these sources began at the end of the 20th century, they remain marginal compared to travel relations and Jesuit relations. Nonetheless, linguistic documents are used to revolutionize research perspectives on First Nations and their contacts with Europeans.
