Abstract. This article aims at establishing a new application of the correspondence analysis (CA) method for analyzing qualitative data in architecture and landscape architecture. This method is primarily used in genealogy but is here, for the first time, applied to architectural studies. After introducing a qualitative method based on coding process, a practical guide for using CAQDAS (Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software) is provided. The software NVivo-8 is applied to analyze the data. CA, a multivariate statistical technique, is used to identify the underlying structure of the data and visualize the results. For the purpose of testing this method in practice, the National Garden of Tehran was selected as a case study to provide the data. The focus is on visualizing the similarities between the properties of the National Garden of Tehran and several different garden design styles. Two reliability tests were performed to verify the results, indicating that the National Garden of Tehran has many characteristics similar to those of a typical Baroque garden style. We believe that this new method may have wide application possibilities for studies on architecture, urban design, and landscape architecture.
The present study investigates the effect of spatial features of urban space on enhancing user-space through increasing social interaction. In recent years, the rate of presence and occurrence of social interaction in public places such as neighborhood centers have been noticeable. This issue can play an important role in recognizing the social relations, in environmental quality, in revealing social life as well as the culture. The present study was done in Sultan-Mirahmad neighborhood. It is considered that legibility, complexity, accessibility, the hierarchy of spatial as well as identifying features affect the occurrence of different usages and the variety of activities during the daily life in the neighborhood. To investigate the role of spatial features, 50 available local residents and newcomers (tourists) were selected and a questionnaire was designed to do the survey. The Cronbach alpha validity came 0.75. Analyzing the data, three factors were identified including legibility, complexity and accessibility with every factor including some sub-factors. Based on this study, a model can be compiled to show how these three factors interplay in enhancing social interactions. The rate of effectiveness of the factors depends on the various sub-factors that make them up. The results showed that these three characteristics of spatial features are the most important in significantly enhancing the social interaction and use of urban space.
The residential environments provide the main tools for developing different types of life indicators such as health, family, job, and leisure. These environments can create or provide the appropriate conditions for increasing the satisfaction of their dwellers by accessing the required criteria. In various cities of Iran, the lack of consideration to the qualitative criteria of dwelling in the trend of progressions resulted from the industrial developments caused by the construction of unidentified residence environments. In this paper, by explaining the effective factors on the quality of residential in the neighborhood units, by emphasizing social, cultural, and functionalperformance factors, each of the elements was divided into the sub-elements study and these indicators are evaluated in different parts of Kerman city. After completing the librarybased studies and an open interview with the experts and managers, the qualitative criteria of assessment from the theoretical principles were measured, such as: the homogenizes cultural, social, economics, and the quarter services. The research method is analytic-descriptive and the aim is to improve the quality of residence. A questionnaire with 40 questions was completed, validity of the questionnaires was confirmed by social sciences professors and its stability was confirmed by Cronbach. The questionnaires were generated among 387 of statistical population according to the Cochrane formula. The results were analyzed by Pearson's correlation and a multiple linear regression (MLR) model and they show a significant correlation between the variables affecting the quality of habitation.
