Expressions are derived for speed and attenuation of compressional waves travelling normal to the boundaries of a laminated medium which consists of alternating layers of two fluid-saturated porous solids. Fluid flow across boundaries is taken into account through approximate expressions, applicable at low frequencies, derived through extension of the approach used by Gassmann. Calculations show that when one of the saturating fluids is gas, substantial dispersion and extreme attenuation may result.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
