We have studied the shadow of a disformal Kerr black hole with an extra deformation parameter, which belongs to non-stealth rotating solutions in quadratic degenerate higher-order scalar–tensor (DHOST) theory. Our result show that the size of the shadow increases with the deformation parameter for the black hole with arbitrary spin parameter. However, the effect of the deformation parameter on the shadow shape depends heavily on the spin parameter of black hole and the sign of the deformation parameter. The change of the shadow shape becomes more distinct for the black hole with the more quickly rotation and the more negative deformation parameter. Especially, for the near-extreme black hole with negative deformation parameter, there exist a “pedicel”-like structure appeared in the shadow, which increases with the absolute value of deformation parameter. The eyebrow-like shadow and the self-similar fractal structures also appear in the shadow for the disformal Kerr black hole in DHOST theory. These features in the black hole shadow originating from the scalar field could help us to understand the non-stealth disformal Kerr black hole and quadratic DHOST theory.
We have studied the shadow of a rotating squashed Kaluza-Klein (KK) black hole and find that the shadow possesses some distinct properties from those of usual rotating black holes. Our result shows that the shadow shape is a perfect black disk for the black hole in the allowed parameter region. Moreover, the shadow for a rotating squashed KK black hole is heavily influenced by the specific angular momentum of photon from the fifth dimension. Especially, as the parameters lie in a certain special range, there is no any shadow for a black hole, which does not emerge for the usual black holes. In the case where the black hole shadow exists, the radius of the shadow decreases with the rotation parameter of black hole, but the change of the shadow radius with extra dimension parameter also depends on the rotation parameter of black hole. Finally, with the latest observation data, we estimate the angular radius of the shadow for the supermassive black hole Sgr A * at the centre of the Milky Way galaxy and the supermassive black hole in M 87.
We have studied electromagnetic line emissions from near-horizon region in the extremal Kerr-Taub-NUT black hole spacetime and then probe the effects of NUT charge on the electromagnetic line emissions. Due to the presence of the NUT charge, the equatorial plane is no more a symmetry plane of the KTN spacetime, which leads to that the dependence of electromagnetic line emission on the NUT charge for the observer in the Southern Hemisphere differs from that in the Northern one. Our result indicate that the electromagnetic line emission in the Kerr-Taub-NUT black hole case is brighter than that in the case of Kerr black hole for the observer in the equatorial plane or in the Southern Hemisphere, but it becomes more faint as the observer's position deviates far from the equatorial plane in the Northern one. Moreover, we also probe effects of redshift factor on electromagnetic emission from near-horizon region in the extremal Kerr-Taub-NUT black hole spacetime.
We have investigated the properties of the ergosphere and the energy extraction by Penrose process in a Konoplya-Zhidenko rotating non-Kerr black hole spacetime. We find that the ergosphere becomes thin and the maximum efficiency of energy extraction decreases as the deformation parameter increases. For the case with a < M , the positive deformation parameter yields that the maximum efficiency is lower than that in the Kerr black hole with the same rotation parameter. However, for the superspinning case with a > M , we find that the maximum efficiency can reach so high that it is almost unlimited as the positive deformation parameter is close to zero, which is a new feature of energy extraction in such kind of rotating non-Kerr black hole spacetime.
