Ouratea robusta, a new species from the Atlantic Forest in northeastern Brazil is described and illustrated. Comments about the habitat, phenology and distribution are presented. The new species is morphologically similar to O. crassa and O. fieldingiana, both occurring in the states of Alagoas, Bahia and Sergipe, but can be easily distinguished from these by the entire or slightly serrate leaves, flabellate petals and the showy, stout panicle.
