hemodialysis patients". The study was carried out with individuals of both sexes, with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. Sociodemographic, lifestyle, clinical, biochemical and anthropometric data were collected. Student's "t" test was used to compare the means. Results: The sample consisted of 52 patients, with a mean age of 47.42 (± 14.57 years). Through the body mass index, a greater percentage of overweight patients was found (38.5%). With regard to handgrip strength in the free arm, it can be seen that it was impaired in almost half of the patients (42.3%). Regarding the association of handgrip strength with clinical parameters, it was observed that there was a statistically significant association (p = 0.024) between the handgrip strength of the free arm with time on hemodialysis and the rate of reduction of urea (p = 0.015). Conclusions It can be concluded that patients who have a longer time on hemodialysis and less dialysis efficiency, have impaired muscle function, emphasizing the importance of a thorough evaluation in this population.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
