This research aims to evaluate the performance production and technical efficiency of oil palm production in Indonesia based on the management pattern (independent farmers and supported farmers). The secondary data were used from the Estate Cultivation Household Survey (ST2013 SKB) conducted by BPS-Statistics Indonesia. The empirical analysis involved using a meta-frontier approach, allowing one to decompose efficiency into grouplevel technical efficiency and technology gaps. The results indicate that the output of each management pattern behind their potential with the mean technical efficiency of 0,6789 and 0,7127 for independent farmers and supported farmers, respectively. The technology gap ratio statistics showed that the farmers had adopted the best available smallholder production technology in their farming. However, independent farmers were slightly more optimal than supported farmers. The efficiency measure generated from the meta-frontier revealed that supported farmers were more efficient, where the primary source of inefficiency came from managerial inefficiency. Thus, the policies to increase the production of oil palm smallholders must focus on the improvement of technical skills and managerial capabilities of farmers on the efficient use of resources and advanced technology by considering each characteristic of each management pattern.
The main objective of the present study is to analyze the technical efficiency (TE) and evaluate its determinant in smallholder oil palm farming in Indonesia. The stochastic frontier analysis was applied to 20,409 selected oil palm farmers from the results of the 2014 Estate Cultivation Household Survey (ST2013 SKB) conducted by BPS-Statistics Indonesia. The results showed that all the input variables had a positive influence on oil palm production along with existing inefficiencies among heterogeneous smallholder farmers. They also indicated that the mean level of the TE among oil palm smallholders was 0.6694. Furthermore, variables such as farmer age, education, type of farmer, and location of the farm had positive and significant effects on TE. Therefore, the development policies in the oil palm smallholder sector might focus on promoting education and facilitate the accessibility of farmers to extension services by giving guidance on farming management based on environmentally friendly principles to improve production regarding land expansion.
This study assesses technical efficiency and possible sources of inefficiency of independent smallholder oil palm production in Indonesia with stochastic frontier approach. The result show all the input variables is positively affect the oil palm production and exhibit decreasing returns to scale . The farmers have mean technical efficiency (TE) values 0.6541, however about 53 % farmers have TE above 0.70. Factors such as age of farmer, education, extension services, member of farmer group, land ownership and funding sources have a positive and significant effect on technical efficiency. It is suggested that by improving factors such as input used, education level, technical assistance on farming practice and accessibility to credit facilities should be increase the productivity and technical efficiency of oil palm production. The farmers who have plant over 30 years old, which the TE and productivity are the lowest values, should be thinking about replanting
Empowerment of women through the use of local resources provides change and progress in Rantau Puri Village located in Muara Bulian District, Batang Hari Regency. Local resources as a dimension of local wisdom include Natural Resources (SDA), Human Resources (HR), and Socio-Cultural Resources that must be utilized to achieve change, progress and prosperity. Utilization of these three local resources in an integrated manner can provide independence. The kepok banana is one of the local natural resources developed by the local community, the kepok banana was chosen because it is often found in the local area. Banana kepok can be processed into chips with various flavors and also opaque, while for the heart of banana kepok you can make steak. Processing made from bananas is still done traditionally or manually so that the resulting product does not meet market demand. The purpose of this service is to provide assistance to the joint business group (KUBE) of Rantau Puri village through the use of local resources to be managed into regional superior products. The service will be held on October 2, 9 and 16, 2021. The methods used to achieve the objectives include: (a) socialization of the program to target groups, local government and communities (b) counseling on the use of local resources (c) skills training to target groups . The results of community service in the form of empowerment or assistance to women through the use of kepok bananas which are processed into banana chips, opaque and steak. The conclusion of this service is that there needs to be further assistance to the community to be wiser and skilled both in terms of skills and technology in the use of local resources.
