Elderly patients with AF benefit from AF ablation, which is safe and effective in maintaining sinus rhythm and is associated with lower mortality and stroke risks.
Minipigs, 2, 4, 6 months old, were used to evaluate the relationship between myelination in the fiber tracts of the central nervous system (CNS) of this animal during development. Histological results showed an increased density of the myelinated fibers as well as branching of these fibers in the areas studied, including the cortical white matter, olfactory tract, the corticospinal tract, the fasciculus cuneatus and the spinal V nucleus from 2 to 6 months old. By 6 months, the pig was sexually matured. Concomitantly, there was an increase in high signal-intensity regions (sites) in the magnetic resonance T1-weighted images as myelination progressed. There is a good correlation between the histologically observed progress of myelination and the T1-weighted images in the development of the CNS of the pig.
In the UK, approximately 1 in 29 children have experienced the death of a parent or sibling and over 100 children are bereaved of a parent each day (Winston's Wish, 2019). There is a considerable gap in research exploring Bereavement Support Provision (BSP) in primary schools, yet many authors argue that schools are suitably positioned to provide support to bereaved children. This paper presents the qualitative phase of a mixed-methods study aimed to gain insight into BSP in primary schools across one London Local Authority. After completing an online questionnaire, 16 participants took part in semi-structured interviews. The findings of this study highlighted that BSP is characterised by social and emotional support and other indirect responses (e.g. a referral). Providing support to a bereaved child had a negative impact on the emotional well-being of staff and additional training and consultation support for staff is needed. This study explores how Educational Psychologists are well placed to provide whole school and targeted bereavement support to schools and school staff.
A 49-year-old woman with a past history of several infundibular cysts in the head and neck region presented with a 6-month history of a nonhealing perianal abscess on a background of 13 years of chronic sacral-buttock abscesses and discharging sinuses as part of hidradenitis suppurativa. After 2 surgical procedures and inadequate healing, a wide local excision was performed. The surgical specimen revealed an extensive, infiltrating, cystic and deeply penetrating, dermal and subcutaneous neoplasm with multiple fistulous tracts extending to the skin surface. The histopathology was consistent with carcinoma cuniculatum, a rare, slow growing, verucciform variant of squamous cell carcinoma. An entirely subcutaneous verrucous carcinoma of the sacrogluteal region is exceptionally rare, and this represents the first documentation of such a case in a female.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
