Colonies of Trichoderma harzianum were inhibitory of strains of Fusarium culmorum in different environmental conditions. The degree of inhibition was dependent on the temperature and water activity treatments. Nearly all macroscopic analysis of the Petri plates revealed that Trichoderma harzianum against F. culmorum was a competitor for space and nutrients. In these conditions the microscopic study showed that Trichoderma harzianum was a mycoparasite. The possible production of cell-wall degrading enzymes by Trichoderma harzianum and its effect on mycelia of F. culmorum are discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
