Based on the importance of knowledge and with focus on the contribution that Design and Research in Design intend to provide for the development of a more informed society with better, but also sustainable, quality of life, this paper propose to collect the theoretical framework regarding juxtaposition of the agents University (Knowledge) and Governments (Policy), mediated by Design. The ongoing research in Design for the Territory, which this reflection is part, identified in the critical and creative nature of thinking in Design, a clear opportunity to support the creation of a knowledge-based society and knowledge-based policy. The evidence of the strategic nature of Design and the mediation operated by Design, place the discipline as an urgent partner of decision-making bodies in Universities and Governments.
Portugal is receiving international recognition for its competence centers in various activity sectors, mostly located in the North of the country (wines, textiles, footwear, wooden furniture, technology). This region still enjoys a creative frenzy that is an innovation enhancer. Despite that, the perceived strength of Brand Origin for Portuguese products is lower than Swiss Made or German Made products. Optimistically, we can see this as space and opportunity for growth of the Brand Portugal, but which presents itself as a demanding challenge for the territories through their local agents. Considering this ecosystem, we affirm the indispensable contribution of Design in the economic valorization of the industrial product and the sustainable growth of cities, regions, and nations. Thus, we bring to this reflection a review that articulates the theoretical statements of Design as Cultural Mediator and Brand Design, looking for the stabilization of concepts associated with them, and we left as a contribution, the possibility of The Brand as Mediation through Design.
O texto expõe o processo de concepção museográfica em alguns dos projetos museográficos desenhados durante a última década pelo estúdio português “Providência Design”. Tendo como parâmetro o propósito de “museu criativo”, designação cunhada por Inês Ferreira, serão analisados o modo como esses elementos de mediação foram concebidos, desenhados, construídos e instalados no espaço, e promovem uma relação entre o público e o acervo, através da construção de narrativas abertas à interpretação dos públicos, criando camadas de significado sobre os objetos.
