This study investigated the impact of structured sheet media on standard oxygen transfer efficiencies in clean water (SOTE CW ) using coarse and fine bubble diffusers. The primary goal of this study was to determine the impacts of structured sheet media at standard, full-scale configurations on the oxygen transfer efficiency of diffusers in terms of different diffuser types, media tower depths, and aeration intensities in a clean water environment. Results showed that fine bubble diffusers' standard oxygen transfer efficiencies were significantly higher than those of coarse bubble diffusers in the presence of structured sheet media. The presence of structured sheet media may increase coarse-bubble diffuser efficiency design values by 5-50% and decrease fine-bubble diffuser efficiency by 2-30% for conditions tested. Oxygen transfer efficiency impacts exerted by free-floating media and structured-sheet media were also compared in this paper.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
