Comment.-A review of reported cases showed that the youngest pa¬ tient in the whole series was 3 years old and the oldest 89 years, among 15 males and 20 females. The right side was involved twice as often as the left. In one patient both kidneys were involved. In most patients, symptoms and signs were typical of other kidney tumors. The most common symptom was pain on the side of the lesion, present in 17 instances. Hematuria was present in 12 patients. Weight loss was significant in seven. A pal¬ pable mass was discovered preoperatively in 14 patients.Urographie changes included hydronephrosis, displacement, deform¬ ity, lack of filling, or nonexcretion of the contrast material. These were discovered in 17 patients.4The symptoms were present from one week to a year in most patients. One patient had intermittent pain in the right upper quadrant for 37 years, before a palpable mass in the same region was discovered.Local recurrence was noted in four of the 24 patients who were operated on within a year of nephrectomy. Distant métastases were reported in seven patients.Postoperative information was lacking in two patients. The tumor was an incidental autopsy finding in four patients. Twenty-four patients underwent nephrectomy. Of 17 pa¬ tients followed up, the longest sur¬ vival period was 38 months. Nine pa¬ tients were reported well and free from detectable metastasis or recur¬ rence 4 to 18 months after nephrec¬ tomy. Early recurrence is generally common even after careful surgery and apparent total tumor removal. The favorable result in our patient may be attributed to an early oppor¬ tunity of diagnosis and treatment, but characters of the tumor might have been the most important fac¬ tors.
