The glass transmission of a CRT determines the compromise between two perceptual parameters that are of key importance: the brightness and the daylight contrast. Thus the picture quality of a CRT strongly depends on the glass transmission. This paper explains how optimal picture quality under varying ambient illumination can be achieved with user‐adjustable glass transmission. The two variable transmission technologies that are currently investigated by Philips, i.e. photochromics and electrochromics, are discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
