Abstrrrct-In the frame of the European Fusion TechnologyProgramme, the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe and the CRPP Villigen have been developing a 60 kA current lead for the ITER TF coils using High Temperature Superconductor (HTS). In part 3 of the task, a 20 kA HTS current lead was assembled using two 81-2223 modules manufactured in industry. The performance test was carried out at NIFS, Japan, as part of the LIME project. The test covers the electrical and thermal behaviour in both steady state and transient operation. Current sharing was observed between two modules and the quench current o f the current lead was evaluated about 30 kA at the design conditions. The results suggest that it is possible to satisfy all requirements needed for the leads o f the I T E R T F coils.Index Terms-High temperature superconductor, current leads.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
