We aim in this article to review the literature covering the evaluation of robot-assisted surgery in the treatment of renal cancer by partial nephrectomy, comparing it with an open approach and with conventional laparoscopic surgery. Robotassisted surgery brings minimally invasive partial nephrectomy nearer. It facilitates the performance of partial nephrectomy in a shorter operative time and with less blood loss and reduced length of hospital stay in comparison with open surgery. The warm ischaemia time is similar to that with open surgery and is below the 25 minutes limit. The width of surgical margins is not statistically different from that obtained with standard laparoscopic techniques. To cite this journal: Oncologie 13 (2011).
