Natural Interface with Computer using the intelligent approaches is the need of Human Computer Interaction (HCI)applications. In this paper, three techniques were proposed and experimented for interaction with Desktop/Laptop with static hand gesture. All these techniques were using real time approach with different feature descriptors such as Fourier Descriptor(FD),7 Hu moments, Convex Hull and Finger Detection. Real time Recognition efficiency was calculated with respect to recognition time for FD and 7 Hu moments. The 300 samples were trained and stored into database for recognition. For unknown user average recognition time was required 1.7 sec using FD as a feature and 4.6 sec using 7 Hu moments and recognition efficiency was achieved 96% and 98% using 7 Hu and FD respectively. In the second technique New Finger detection algorithm was developed and experimented with Hand tracking system(HTS). In this approach, system was working in dynamic background but gives better result in static background. In the third approach, 3-D Kinect camera was used where hand segmentation was achieved using depth image and finger detection were calculated using Convex Hull. In this approach hand segmentation became easier than first two techniques. With all these approaches feature extraction using 7 Hu and FD can be extend for any other HCI application including sign language recognition. Finger counting algorithm can be combined with other descriptor in complex hand sign as a feature. Currently system is working on static hand gestures, further it will be extended to dynamic hand gesture recognition for Indian sign language interpretation.
Many recent events, such as terrorist attacks, exposed defects in most sophisticated security systems. Therefore, it is necessary to improve security data systems based on the body or behavioral characteristics, often called biometrics. Together with the growing interest in the development of human and computer interface and biometric identification, human face recognition has become an active research area. Face recognition appears to offer several advantages over other biometric methods. Nowadays, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) has been widely adopted for the face recognition algorithm. Yet still, PCA has limitations such as poor discriminatory power and large computational load. This paper proposes a novel algorithm for face recognition using a mid band frequency component of partial information which is used for PCA representation. Because the human face has even symmetry, half of a face is sufficient for face recognition. This partial information saves storage and computation time. In comparison with the traditional use of PCA, the proposed method gives better recognition accuracy and discriminatory power. Furthermore, the proposed method reduces the computational load and storage significantly
Multi Valued Logic [MVL] is emerging as a promising choice for future computing technology. MVL has seen major advancement in the recent past due to several advantages offered by them over the binary logic, thus making it a thrust area for further research. The instruction set of the processor is its inherent entity. This paper presents design and implementation of an efficient instruction set for a ternary processor using Very-High-Speed Integrated Circuits, VHSIC Hardware Description Language [VHDL]. Twenty one instructions including various addressing modes such as register, direct and immediate mode are designed and implemented for 4-trit ternary processor. The required control signals are appropriately identified in the proposed design and enable the smooth operation of instructions. The designed 4 -trit instruction set signifies encouraging results that will pave the path for further developments in ternary processors.
Human Computer Interaction moves forward in the field of sign language interpretation. Indian Sign Language (ISL) Interpretation system is a good way to help the Indian hearing impaired people to interact with normal people with the help of computer. As compared to other sign languages, ISL interpretation has got less attention by the researcher. In this paper, some historical background, need, scope and concern of ISL are given. Vision based hand gesture recognition system have been discussed as hand plays vital communication mode. Considering earlier reported work, various techniques available for hand tracking, segmentation, feature extraction and classification are listed. Vision based system have challenges over traditional hardware based approach; by efficient use of computer vision and pattern recognition, it is possible to work on such system which will be natural and accepted, in general.
