Background/objectives: The objective of the study is to increase the resolution and radiate sharper beam towards the user in mobile communication using Smart Antenna. Methodology: The Conventional and Subspace Algorithms from the literature are studied and simulated in MATLAB so that the foundation is laid for better detection of algorithms and radiation formation. The results are explained for varying number of antenna elements and mobiles sources placed close to far. Findings: The classical direction of arrival algorithms namely CAPCON, Maximum Entropy Method, Maximum Likelihood Method are used to find the direction of mobile users based on the computation of the power spectrum. Several methods namely Least Mean Square, Griffiths Method, Variable Step Size Griffiths and Recursive Least Square are used to form the main beam for the user detected by the direction of arrival algorithms. Novelty/improvements: In order to take further the research on enhancing the resolution and having a higher convergence rate with reasonable step size, this paper presents the well-known conventional and modern algorithms from the literature. The results are simulated are well described for performing parameters.
Introduction:Routinely postoperative nasogastric decompression was done until the nasogastric drainage is minimal, reoccurrence of bowel sounds and passing flatus. But prolonged nasogastric intubation is associated with complications like basal atelectasis due to poor cough reflux, loss of electrolytes and increased patient morbidity.Aims and Objectives:To study the need for routine use of nasogastric tube post operatively in bowel surgeries with reference to (1) Return of bowel movements (2) Compare the incidence of complications (3) Duration of hospital stay.Methodology:100 patients who underwent elective bowel surgery were randomized into two groups: Study group (50): Nasogastric tube was removed immediately after operation or in the recovery room. Control group (50): Underwent nasogastric tube removal postoperatively after the patient passed flatus and audible bowel sounds on auscultation.Results:Incidence of complications were less in the study group i.e., only three patients had vomiting, and two patients had abdominal distension which lead to postponement of oral feeds. Most of our control group patients complained of discomfort and difficulty in coughing and in bringing out sputum, which was the probable cause for high incidence of pulmonary complications.Conclusion:Routine use of the nasogastric tube adjunct to patient care following bowel surgery may be safely eliminated.
Paratesticular liposarcomas are rare tumors and are often reported as isolated cases. Patients usually present with a painless scrotal or inguinal mass, mimicking inguinal hernia. They refer to liposarcomas arising from the spermatic cord, testicular tunics, and epididymis. We report a case of bilateral scrotal swelling which was misdiagnosed as inguinal hernia. Intraoperative diagnosis of testicular tumor was made. High inguinal orchiectomy was done. Histopathological examination revealed it to be liposarcoma of the cord. To our knowledge, there is no reported case of bilateral paratesticular liposarcoma in English literature, hence we report this case.
