The determination of the precision and accuracy of kinetic data is discussed, with suggestions for the presentation of kinetic results and their uncertainties due to random and systematic errors. With regard to random errors, least-squares expressions are summarized, and confidence limits, propagation of errors, and change of variable are discussed. Sources of systematic errors are outlined, along with potential methods for their detection and estimation. Numerical examples are given illustrating the application of most of these topics to the determination of rate constants at a single temperature, and to the determination of the parameters of several alternative equations commonly used to express their temperature dependence.
