This chapter gives an overview on the husbandry of South American camelids (llama, alpaca, guanaco and vicuna). Focus is given on evolution, domestication, geographical distribution, number, classification, morphology (coat colour), products, behaviour and behavioural problems, restraint, reproductive anatomy and physiology, mating, breeding and shearing of these animals. Drug administration and heat stress in SACs are also discussed. An account of wild SACs is also given.
