Higher education around the world has moved to online teaching due to COVID-19 pandemic. Students in higher education are compelled to attend online classes and adopt e-learning mode. There is not much evidence on training the students to adopt e-learning and remote learning. However, do they have a positive attitude towards e-learning and has it affected their academic performance? Present study administered an e-learning attitude scale to 840 students of a reputed University to examine whether they have positive or avoidance attitude to e-learning and also analysed e-learning attitude across students demographic characteristics. Study revealed a slight positive correlation between e-learning attitude and academic achievement of postgraduate students and not for undergraduate students. Girls’ excelled in their achievement and have a more positive e-learning attitude than boys have. Boys showed avoidance e-learning attitude. However, Socio Economic Status (SES) did not affect students’ e-learning attitude but influenced their academic achievement. Study concludes that stakeholders must create more opportunities to develop a positive attitude towards e-learning as future education is likely to be technology integrated.
Modern challenges in society require universities to move from a traditional to a competency-based technology integrated learning environment. Students must master a variety of newer complex competencies such as: learn to independently search for information, analyze it, and apply it to solve various real time problems through their content knowledge. One of the possible tools for developing these newer competencies is ICT integrated project-based learning (PBL). The present study conducts an ICT integrated practicum to the internationally paired undergraduate students of Indian and Russian universities. The practicum included a collaborative work towards a common theme. Findings of the study reveals that the outputs generated by ICT integrated PBL provided confidence to the participants to use technology tools in a global learning environment to solve real time problems. Study suggested requirements for project organization, technology tools, and a design to implement such projects. Further, it reveals how virtual teams work on a project in an online environment. Study recommends future researchers to focus on more such empirical studies and its efficacy.
This article dwells on the deteriorating value system in India. It presents a glimpse of the value system that existed in India during the Gurukul age, the British reign and also analyzes the present situation. Outbreak of COVID-19, online examination, and e-proctoring have caused more exam anxiety and affected exam performance among students’ studying in International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP). Therefore, the present research aimed to find effect of online test anxiety on academic performance of IBDP students in the subjects related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Study employed quantitative descriptive survey research design and administered survey questionnaire to 200 IB DP students who took online test during COVID-19 through convenient sampling technique. Sample included both first and final year DP students with due representation to boys and girls. Results of the study revealed a moderate negative correlation between online test anxiety and academic performance of IBDP students in STEM subjects. Regression analysis explained 14.1% variation in the STEM subject performance because of online exam anxiety under e-proctored condition. There exists a statistically significant difference between first and final year students’ online exam anxiety and STEM subject average grades. Future research may focus on conducting comfortable online examination methods with no additional exam anxieties. Keywords: International Baccalaureate (IB), Diploma Programme (DP), e-proctored test, virtual examination
