ABSTRACT:The preservation of traditional settlements plays an indispensable part in the field of heritage preservation. The traditional settlements, definitely with cumulative developmental layers, vary in elements and involving numerous stakeholders; therefore, preservation objects and methods are quite complicated. The traditional heritage investigating and recording tools, such as manual mapping, photographing and field reconnaissance, which have exposed many limitations and deficiencies in the actual work, have defects to meet the requirements of settlement heritage preservation projects. This paper describes the process of applying of modern digital heritage recording and investigation technology (mobile GIS and 3D laser scanning technology) in the preservation of Wenming historical and cultural blocks in Kunming and argues that Mobile GIS and 3D laser scanning technology are capable of producing a complete and efficient workflow, as well as providing fundamental technical support for heritage preservation work. Through the research, this paper draws a conclusion that the advantages of the workflow including: (1) accurate and convenient recording, (2) efficient comprehensive spatial analysing, and (3) better integrating protection planning with the later dynamic monitoring and management. Additionally, the author forecasts the prospects of the application of this workflow in the preservation and utilization of settlement heritage.
Abstract. The advancement of geoinformatics technologies promotes national-level attention to heritage inventories and digital platforms. The management of heritage sites requires a more efficient and flexible collection methodology to collect GIS data and support extended applications. This paper discusses the system design and application of Yingshao platform, a more flexible and efficient data collection platform for Chinese heritage sites and full lifecycle management. It applis a framework of WebGIS, MobileGIS and WebGL and adopts a data storage scheme of MySQL and MangoDB. Based on the advanced system architecture, the platform has formed better solutions: (1) establishing a standard and cooperative workflow; (2) integrating diverse data sources; (3) building a flexible geospatial database with a time dimension; (4) ensuring data security and safety. In the applications in China's heritage sites, it significantly improves the efficiency and flexibility during collection. Meanwhile, the collected data could well support management scenarios. We believe that the platform could become an effective and flexible data collection and management tool for China's heritage sites, and it has the potential to become the foundation for full lifecycle management.
ABSTRACT:The essay introduces the methodology and reflection upon the acquirement and interpretation of public documentation supporting the post-disaster reconstruction of the Shangri-La historic town after struck by fire in 2014. The proposed acquirement platform is developed on the basis of WeChat, a popular mobile communication App on smart phones in China. Historic photos and related documents of the burnt historic area are then accumulated to be analytically interpreted to inform post-disaster reconstruction planning.

Abstract. Historic cities, especially inhabited historic cities, are a special type of cultural heritage. Because of the expanding intension and extension of urban heritage, the rapid urbanization and the various stakeholders, the historic cities become much more complex nowadays. The need of GIS-based information systems for historic cities has never been greater. This paper introduces the research on the framework of the Smart Conservation Management System for the Historic City Fuzhou. It is an effort to explore an informatization way for historic cities. The needs of urban heritage itself, and the needs of different stakeholders should be respected. This system follows the principle of authenticity and integrity conservation, the coordination of conservation and sustainable development, the consideration of stakeholders, ease of use, extensibility, and security. The database should be fit for the construction of knowledge warehouse, be easy to collect and renew information. The module should be able to apply easily in everyday use situations, support smart decision making for the users. It is hoped that the research and the system will be referential for other historic cities.
