Traditional financial indicators calculated from financial statements cannot provide adequate information for the management, do not support strategic decisions. The reason for this is the methodology used in producing financial statements and the operational logic of financial accounting. Financial accounting thinks in terms of business year that is 12 months. It deals with events of the past, more accurately, with so called economic activities. Financial accounting evaluates such economic activities in terms of monetary processes, which means that the traditional financial indicators have their limits in application. Could it mean that traditional financial indicators cannot be used in the long-term strategic decision making? In our study we point out two connections between financial indicators and strategic decision making. Firstly, we focus on financial indicators used in supported strategic decision making, in strategic indicator systems. Secondly, we focus on cases in which financial indicators complement the methods of strategic decision making, add something to the tools available in strategic management.
In the field of district heating the process of social innovation has been initiated for the betterment of environmental conditionsand contributes to the improvement of the quality of life at the given locations and to the general well-being of the local community. The aim of this study is to present a good practice of social innovation. The technological development and the implementation of professional innovations at the Miskolc District Heating Ltd. established an operational environment of district heat production that, via the model of optimal heat source mix, can serve as an example for the planning of heat-source portfolios at the Hungarian district heating systems. The study shows how it contributes to the accomplishment of the European and Hungarian energy strategy. It also focuses on the use of eco-label and good examples of using renewable energy sources in district heating. The results of the study are applied to prepare a detailed map of the element of social innovation networks in the field of district heating and to determine the indicator groups with a special focus on its financing and economy.
This study examines specificities in the asset structure of district heating companies in Hungary, with special regard to the accounts receivable. The author wants to find out whether geographical position and the socio-economic conditions of the household consumers have a significant effect on the companies' rate of accounts receivable. In addition, the paper examines how energy efficiency can be described in the case of household consumers of heat suppliers. Its methodology is the analysis of financial reports. Using the data derived from the reports of heat supply companies in Hungary, 72 companies in all, and the technical and economic information, data from 9 years (2009)(2010)(2011)(2012)(2013)(2014)(2015)(2016)(2017) were examined. District-level LHDI was also calculated to describe the characteristics of household consumers.
Nowadays in Hungary, district heating has 677,000 fee payers in 93 settlements, for the provision of which 89 companies are responsible. There are, however, differences in the ownership background, in the technical structure, in the activities carried out by the district heat producers and in the number of the consumers supplied. This paper examines the asset structure of the Hungarian district heat suppliers, with special regard to their fixed asset ratio. The research aims to explore whether the companies’ activities have an effect on their asset structure on the one hand and whether there are any significant differences between some special characteristics (pipeline length, number of fee payers) of the district heat suppliers and the tangible asset ratio. Using the data derived from the accounts of the Hungarian district heat suppliers and from technical and economic data, information from nine years (2009-2017) were analyzed.

However, analysing the company's environment can not only be relevant to the individual entity but can also provide valuable information to researchers and professionals looking at the industry and the trends that can be observed there. The author's research focus is on district heat suppliers. The purpose of this study is to measure the new aspects of district heat suppliers' industry specificities with the application of Porter's five forces analysis and to gather the factors that may affect the asset, financial and income position of companies.
