This work focuses on benchmarking the "Time Difference on Arrival (TDoA)" algorithm against the relatively novel one, "Signal Strength Difference on Arrival (SSDoA)" in the context of mobile positioning in IEEE 802.11 (WLAN) networks. TDoA is a localization technique which has a proven track record, being at the heart of many commercial wireless geolocation applications. In an attempt to validate the potential application of SSDoA for indoor localization, we devise a representative mathematical model and compare its level of accuracy with TDoA. Our Experiments demonstrate that the performance of SSDoA is close to TDoA. In cases where the Access Points (APs) are located further from each other, SSDoA shows a smaller margin of error for localization.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
