Relationship of muscle strength with activities of daily living and quality of life in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [I] Relação das forças musculares com as atividades da vida diária e qualidade de vida em indivíduos com doença pulmonar obstrutiva crônica [A] Gualberto Ruas [a] , Wilbert Esteban Cárdenas Urquizo [a] , George Kemil Abdalla [b] , Dayana Pousa Siqueira Abrahão [b ] , Fabrizio Antonio Gomide Cardoso [a] , Patrícia Sena Pinheiro Abstract Introduction: Few activities of daily living (ADLs) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are tolerated because they are associated with ventilatory and metabolic changes. Simply lifting the upper limb muscle requires changes, resulting in thoracic abdominal asynchrony, increased dyspnea, and can interfere
Rett syndrome is of genetic origin, caused by a mutation of dominant characteristic in the MeCP2 gene, which studies with psychomotor alterations in children. In this sense, this article aims to report the case of a Peruvian patient with the late diagnosis of the disease. The patient started the clinical characteristics of the disease at one year and two months, but the diagnosis, with a genetic study that identified the mutation, was only made at 3 years. During this period her diagnoses were: absence epilepsy and microcephaly. These misconceptions favored the accentuation of biopsychomotor delays. Currently, at the age of 4, the patient is being treated with a multidisciplinary approach, but as there are serious sequelae, there are delays in development and results take time to appear. Therefore, this work shows the difficulty of diagnosis, the need for a multidisciplinary approach in treatment and that there is a need for more studies to learn more about this syndrome and thus be able to provide a better safeguard of the lives of the patients.
Objective: to analyze clinical, placental and obstetric aspects of women with and without high-risk pregnancy, and their relationship with intrauterine growth deviations and neonatal aspects.Method: this is a cross-sectional descriptive study. Data collection was based on an analysis of the medical records of women with and without high-risk pregnancy and newborns, and anatomopathological characterization of the placenta. Results: 265 placentas were analyzed, 130 (49.06%) women with high-risk pregnancy and newborns with intrauterine growth deviations. A higher occurrence of placental changes was found in high-risk pregnancy and uterine growth deviations in comparison to cases without high-risk pregnancy (p≤0.001). High-risk pregnancies with intrauterine growth deviations were associated with placental changes (p≤0.001). Intrauterine growth deviations was related to birth weight in cases of high-risk pregnancy compared to normal gestation (p=0.014).Conclusion: a higher occurrence of placental anatomopathological changes was found in maternal and fetal surfaces in cases of high-risk pregnancy and intrauterine growth deviations. DESCRIPTORS:Fetal growth retardation. High risk pregnancy. Neonatology. Placenta. Newborn. Objective: To analyze the evidence in the evolution of scientific production on the factors associated with curative practices of the umbilical stump. Materials and Methods: The study data collection took place in April 2017. The electronic databases used to search the articles were: PubMed (National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health) and VHL (Virtual Health Library). We used the keywords "perinatal care", "umbilical cord", "patient care team", "neonatology", "newborn", in the Portuguese, English and Spanish languages, accompanied by the expression AND and selected through DeCS (Descriptors in Health Sciences). Results: A final sample of 9 articles was obtained from the PubMed and VHL databases, which met the inclusions criteria. It has been found that traditional umbilical stump care practices are still present in many communities, however, have been replaced by appropriate practices, the most recommended being: chlorhexidine 4% sanitation, soap and water and alcohol antisepsis 70%. Conclusions: There is a need for multi-professional involvement, approaching these women since pregnancy, with detailed information and accessible language about proper care with the newborn and the umbilical stump.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
