Cholestasis, as a paraneoplastic syndrome, has been well described in patients with malignant lymphohyperplastic diseases and renal cell cancer. Non-metastatic nephrogenic hepatic dysfunction syndrome without jaundice has often been described in patients with Stauffer's syndrome. Paraneoplastic cholestatic jaundice is extremely uncommon. We report, a patient who presented with pruritus and cholestatic jaundice and was diagnosed with renal cell cancinoma (RCC) in the right kidney. Liver malfunction and cholestatic icterus was attributed to RCC. Jaundice and liver dysfunction gradually restored to normal after surgical resection of the tumor. Malignancies may cause cholestatic jaundice through well-recognized mechanisms. Paraneoplastic syndromes associated with malignancy, can induce a reversible form of cholestasis through an unclear pathogenetic mechanism.
As has been shown in the article, the Zappas Olympics generously contributed to the revival of the Olympic Games in the nineteenth century. The course of these competitions has been described, and a brief summary of Zappas’s work, which does not often attract a lot of attention in, for example, Polish academics, has also been made. The fact that the Zappas Olympics mainly enhanced the national identity of the Greeks following Turkish captivity has also been highlighted. The Zappas Olympics allowed the Greeks to become more familiar with sports and fair play. The knowledge that the Greeks acquired from the organization of this event was useful for the organization of the first modern Olympic Games in Athens. These days, material remains of this event serve touristic and cultural functions. The significance of such facilities as the Zappeion and the Panathenaic Stadium have also been underlined. For example, the Zappeion and the Panathenaic Stadium host cultural events and welcome tourists interested in sports history or Greek culture. These are the authorities responsible for touristic policy in Greece and they may decide whether such historic sites and sporting facilities will be included in thematic routes for tourists. According to the authors of the present paper, these sites may effectively compete with mass and recreational attractions in Greece.
Objective: TO develop a fast and reliable method of evaluation the cell density of an Aspergillw spore suspension, comparing spore counting with spectrometric optical readings. Materials and Methods: Five and eleven days old spores of clinical strains of A.&migutus (4 strains), A. Jouus (3 strains) and A. n i p (3 strains) were harvested and suspended in PBS+O,OI% TMJeen 80. Optical readings were performed with a Shimadzu UVI6OA spectrophotonicter (Shimadzu Corporation, Tokyo, Japan) and with a Densimat photometer (bioMtrieux, Vercieux, France). Results: Correlation coefficients were established between spectrometric readings (Shiniadzu), MacFarland density scale (Densimat) and classic cell counting for each tested Rrpergillw species. Regarding spectrometric
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
