Creep compliance-time behavior and stability of bitumen in water emulsionsAbstract. Many soft matter systems undergo shear and confinement at length scales approaching that of their underlying microstructure. We focus here on our developments in micro-gap rheometry and soft-tribology / biolubrication for probing the dynamics of multiphase complex fluids and biofluids from the macro-to the nano-scale. In particular, we highlight how narrow-gap rheometry can be used to determine the elasticity of weakly-elastic low-viscosity fluids and for characterizing ultra-low sample volumes of biofluids, and that the boundary friction between rubbing hydrophobic compliant substrates is dependent on the rheology and hydration of the adsorbed species. The presentation will also highlight recent developments in high-speed visualization in rheological and tribological contacts.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
