S -(4 -Ethylamino -6 -isopropylamino -2-5triazino)glutathione and 7-L-glutamyl-S-(4-ethvlamino -6 -isopropylamino -2 -striazino) -lcysteine were isolated from atrazine treated sorghum leaf sections by ion-exchange chromatography and identified by a combination of spectroscopic, chemical, and chromatographic procedures. These compounds represent a new class of herbicide metabolites in plants and demonstrate the existence of a new pathway for the metabolism of atrazine.
tion. Further investigation of the dealkylation products, namely the chlorinated and hydroxylated 4,6-diamino-striazines, was hindered by extraction and partition difficulties but is in progress.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
