We report the complete genome of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain PAK, a strain which has been instrumental in the study of a range of P. aeruginosa virulence and pathogenesis factors and has been used for over 50 years as a laboratory reference strain.
Due to the growing antibiotic resistance crisis, there is a critical need to develop new antibiotics, particularly compounds capable of targeting high-priority antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative pathogens. In order to develop new compounds capable of overcoming resistance a greater understanding of how Gram-negative bacteria are able to prevent the uptake and accumulation of many antibiotics is required.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
