A study plan was designed to estimate the coagulation parameters like Prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), thrombin time (TT), fibrinogen level and fibrinogen degradation products (FDPs). In this study, coagulation parameters were compared in combined oral contraceptives (COCs) and control group. 40 subjects of COCs with 20 normal females without hormonal contraceptive were included in this study. Blood samples were collected for special coagulation parameters. FDPs were significantly elevated in subjects using COCs as compared to normal control. PT and APTT were shortened in COCs. Fibrinogen levels were increased significantly in COCs when compared with control groups.
Aim: To evaluate the lipid profiles and hematological parameters in hypertensive patients. Study design: Cross sectional analytical study Place and duration of study: Department of Hematology, Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore from 1st July 2021 to 31st December 2021. Methodology: Eighty hypertensive patients within the age group of 25-65 years were enrolled. A 5-cc blood was withdrawn from each study patient for analysis of their complete lipid profile including triglycerides, cholesterol, low density lipoproteins, high density lipoproteins as well as for hematological parameters analysis which included red blood cells, white blood cells hematocrits, hemoglobin, red blood cell indices and platelets. Result: The mean age of the patients was 51.89±12.47 years. There were 45 males and 35 females in this study. Obesity was more common in hypertensive women than men. Lipid profile except high density lipoproteins was significantly higher in patients with uncontrolled blood pressure levels. High red blood cells were observed in both males and females with uncontrolled blood pressure while the platelets level decreased in uncontrolled BP males and increased in uncontrolled BP females in comparison to controlled males and females respectively. An increased level of hemoglobin and hematocrit in patients from both genders with uncontrolled blood pressure was observed. Conclusion: Disturbed lipid profile and hematological parameters imbalances are related with the hypertension Key words: Lipid profile, Hematological parameters, Hypertension
An experimental study on albino rats was designed to estimate the coagulation parameters like Prothrombin time (PT), Activated Partial Thromboplatin Time (APTT) and fibrinogen level and coagulation parameters were compared in animals fed on low and high cone of canola oil and canola supplemented with atherogenic element. Sixty albino rats were selected and divided into five different groups with twelve rats in each group. Group A was given synthetic diet (control) and other four groups were given low and high cone. of canola oil and canola oil+atherogenic elements for 6 weeks duration. At 6th week blood samples were collected. PT and APTT were reduced in groups taking different cone of canola + atherogenic element when compared with those on pure canola oil. Groups on canola+atherogenic diet showed increased fibrinogen level when comparing with those on pure canola oil for six weeks.
Objective: This study was aimed to measure serum folate levels in patients of end stage renal disease (ESRD) on regular haemodialysis and compared with normal healthy individuals. Study design: It is a comparative study. Setting: Department of Pathology, Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore Patients and methods: One hundred subjects were selected and divided into two groups. Group A include fifty patients of end stage renal disease on regular haemodialysis and group B include fifty normal healthy individuals as control. Two ml of blood was drawn by venepuncture, one ml for complete blood examination and one ml for serum folate level. Results: A significant decrease in folate level was observed in end stage renal disease patients on regular haemodialysis as compared to control group. Conclusion: By measuring serum folate level in patients on regular haemodialysis we can manage anaemia due to folate deficiency.
