Volatile components of Catharanthus roseus, obtained by water distillation of leaves and industrial marcs (plant residues) were analysed by GC-MS. This study allowed the identification of 76 compounds. The major substances were represented by a homologous series of alkanes, alcohol, aldehydes, ketones, fatty acids, fatty acid esters, terpenoids and phenylpropanoids. They are newly identified in this species and most of them have not been reported previously in the family Apocynaceae.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
