Drug users are generally vulnerable to malnutrition because of the side effects of drugs itself that has resulted in appetite reduction and nutrients malabsorption. Inadequate nutrient intake especially nutrient for haemoglobinsynthesis is the main cause of anemia among drug users. The aim of this research was to analyze the relationship between intake of micronutrients and haemoglobin level among drug users in Medan Tembung Sub District. Thisresearch was an observasional study with cross sectional design. The respondents was 73 drug users selected by snowball and accidental sampling technique. Datas were analyzed using the pearson correlation test and rankspearmean correlation followed by linier regression test to analyze the main variables which cause the anemia. There was a relationship between the intake of micronutrients such as iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), vitamin B9, vitamin B12 andvitamin C with the level of Hb where the value of
Osteoporosis in women starting at the age of 30 years and increased significantly at the age of 50 years, or around the age of menopause and prevalence of osteoporosis is 80 percent occurred in women. Prevention can be done with doing exercise and giving attention to a high dietary intake of calcium and vitamin C. The purpose of this study was to determine the gymnastic habits, intake of calcium and Vitamin C with a density of bone mass of gymnastics partisipants in Asia Mega Mas Housing at Sukaramai, Medan in 2013. This study was an observational with cross sectional study design. The number of subject was calculated using statistical formulas and samples were determined using purposive sampling technique with total of 67 people. Chi Square was applied and followed by a test of multivariate logistic regression to evaluate the most influence variable on bone mass density. The results showed that there were significant relationships for the three independent variables with bone mass density (p <0.05). Logistic regression test found that the most affected factor to bone mass density of gymnastics participants was calcium. For the people who like sport and have aged >30 years, intake adequately of calcium should be considered to prevent bone loss (osteoporosis) prematurely.
Snakehead fish has high content of zinc and albumin, it can be given to people with immune disorder. Snakehead fish can be made into various kind of food product that are high in nutrients, have aestetic value, and taste like nugget. The effectiveness of zinc and albumin function can work optimally when the consumption is combined with food ingredient that are high in bioactive substances such as lycopene, anthocyanin, flavonoid, karetonoid, bromelain, papain and quercetin. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectof snakehead nugget administration and colored fruit juices simultaneously on clinical manifestation, BMI, TLC, albumin and CD4 value in PLHIV at HIV/AIDS Rehabilitation Center in Medan. The design of research was quasy experimental with pre and post test design. The subjects was 40 people who lived at HIV/AIDS Rehabilitation Center in Medan and given snackhead fish nugget and colored fruit juice for 24 days. The data analysis used dependent T-test, after data normality test had previously been carried out. There was effect before and after administration of snakehead fish nuggets and colored fruit juice on clinical manifestation, BMI, TLC and CD4 levels with p value <0.05. It is necessary to provide treatment in longer term as preventive measure for the emergence of various clinical manifestations as well as to increase BMI, TLC, albumin and CD4 in PLHIV at HIV/AIDS Rehabilitation Center in Medan.
Vegetarian, vegan and non-vegan, can lower the risk of metabolic syndrome disease caused by central obesity by measuring waist circumference and the general obesity by assessing Body Mass Index (BMI). One of alternative to prevent can be done by changing the pattern of diet habits from omnivores (the consumption of animal products and vegetable and dairy) become vegetarian (vegetable and dairy product consumption). The purpose of this study was to analyze differences in waist circumference and BMI in terms of nutrient intake in the vegetarian community members Indonesia Vegetarian Society (IVS) at the age of 30-58 years in Maha Vihara Maitreya Medan. This study was an observational with cross sectional design. These research subjects are divided into two groups, 42 vegans and 42 non-vegans selected by screening, and then determined by purposive sampling. Nutrient intake data collected by interview using the 24-hour recall, while the antropometry measurement using a measuring tape, scales and microtoise. Analysis were done using Independent T-test. The results showed there's difference of waist circumference between vegan and non vegan (p = 0.008), but there is no difference of IMT (p = 0105). Statistically, energy and protein intake was not different (p> 0.05), however, there were differences found in carbohydrate intake (p = 0.001) and total fat (p = 0.005) in the vegan and non vegan. The continue research on the diet of vegan vegetarian adverse event to metabolic syndrome and the characteristics of the food based on local cultural wisdom needs to be done.
