Parapharyngeal ganglioneuroma of hypoglossal nerve is very rare benign tumor arising from sympathetic nervous system producing mass and functional effect. We present a rare case in 4 year old girl with history of swelling and odynophagia in left side of neck. Extensive clinical, immunohistochemistry, and imaging of the swelling confirmed the diagnosis of ganglioneuroma after surgical excision.
Introduction:
Appropriate wound closure with appropriate suture material is of prime significance in surgery. Hence, we aim to assess the efficiency of ISO amyl 2-cyanoacrylate glue in closure of extraoral surgical wound when compared with other suture materials like polypropylene (prolene), nylon (ethilon) and silk (mersilk).
Materials and Methods:
We conducted a prospective clinical observational study in which 60 subjects were divided into two groups: suture group and cyanoacrylate group. They were compared for wound healing complications on days 1, 3, 7, 12, and at 1 month postoperatively with
P
< 0.05 as significant.
Results:
We observed that there was no statistically significant difference between the groups for the various parameters of the wound healing for the different time periods except that color acceptability and visibility were significantly superior in the cyanoacrylate group.
Conclusion:
Iso amyl 2-cyanoacrylate can be used successfully in the suture closure with excellent patient satisfaction and can be considered as an alternative to the routine suture materials.
Childhood is the mirror which refl ects the propensities of adulthood. The objective of this crosssectional study was to determine the prevalence of malocclusion, deleterious oral habits and relationship of deleterious oral habits and malocclusions in 3-5 years old children. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 800 school children aged ranges between 3 and 5 years who were randomly selected from 10 different public schools in Davangere city, India. Occlusal assessments and clinical examination for assessing the oral habits was carried out. After obtaining the data, Chi-square test and Z-test were used to analyze the data. The results showed the prevalence of malocclusion was 8.9% and of various deleterious oral habits was 47.2%. Tongue thrusting (29.5%) was most commonly observed habit followed by mouth-breathing (26.5%). In the presence of deleterious, oral habits 13% of children were observed with the malocclusions. The prevalence of normal deciduous dentition was observed in 87% of children even in the presence of habits. Prevalence of oral habits observed was highly signifi cant constituting 47.2% and the correlation between prevalence of oral habits and malocclusions in deciduous dentition does not seem to be strong, but we found tongue thrusting and mouth-breathing habit more in this age group constituting 29.5% and 26.2%, respectively, contributing to the malocclusion.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
