<p>This paper contains the theoretical support necessary to develop the project “Reading as a pedagogical resource in specific areas”. The purpose is to implement reading under the parameters of ESP (English for Specific Purposes) through the communicative approach, at USTA (Universidad Santo Tomás, Tunja), with a group of students of V level of English, who read topics of their<br />own field of study; acquiring specific vocabulary and information as well as improving in the use of English as a foreign language, work which is verified by researchers through oral and written practice.</p>
