The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of supplying water with varying salinity levels to dairy goats on nutrient intake, apparent nutrient digestibility, and milk yield. The experiment lasted 65 days and involved 24 crossbred goats with mean body weight of 38±4 kg, which were randomly allotted. It was set in a completely randomized design with four treatments consisting of 640, 3188, 5740 and 8326 mg L -1 total dissolved solids (TDS) in the drinking water. The results showed that water salinity levels had no effect on the intake of dry matter, neutral detergent fiber, crude protein, ether extract, total carbohydrates, non-fibrous carbohydrates, total digestible nutrients, metabolizable energy, digestible energy, or apparent nutrient digestibility. Water intake was influenced by the salinity, increasing as the salt level was increased. Moreover, the varying salinity had no significant effect on milk yield. Drinking water containing up to 8326 mg L -1 TDS provided no interference with the intake and nutrient digestibility of lactating goats in the feedlot. However, increasing the water salinity affects animal intake without any changes in milk yield. Therefore, this type of water can be used for crossbred goats at 30 days in milk, for up to 65 days in the feedlot. Key words: Saline water. Intake. Digestibility. The fiber is an essential component and one of the main items in diet of ruminants, and their physical and chemical characteristics can directly affect the digestive physiology in the rumen. In the practice, the fiber in the balance of diets given different terms, according with their solubility and degradation characteristics. These terms, including FB (crude fiber), NDF (neutral detergent fiber) and ADF (acid detergent fiber), NDF being more related to structural carbohydrates (cellulose, hemicellulose and pectin), which is more used to interfere in the diet utilization by animal, their quantity can stimulate or inhibit food intake by ruminants. Based on the physical characteristics of NDF two new concepts were developed: physically effective NDF (peFDN) related to particle size and effective NDF (eFDN) related with the ability of food in maintained the percentage of fat in milk. The FDA refers to cellulose, lignin, silica and protein, and is used to estimated the hemicellulose by subtraction of ADF from NDF. The fiber stimulates chewing, serves as substrate for microorganisms, contribute to maintenance of the fermentative standards and rumen ambient stability. Thus, the fiber in diet of ruminants when not available in quantity and quality at animals may compromise the performance and interfere in the final products characteristics, yonder cause disturbances in the energy metabolism of animals.
Palavras chave: castração, idade ao abate, produtos de origem animal Quality of weights of different sheep meat and sexual conditionABSTRACT. The intensification of the sheep meat production system is influenced by management techniques such as castration, is aiming to obtain a product of better sensory and nutritional quality, which is desired by the consumer market, providing greater profitability to the producer. Castration technique is a known method beneficial to the quality of meat produced by young animals, improving fat deposit (degree of completion). On the other hand some authors cite that castration inhibits growth, leading to less weight gain of the animals, especially when it occurs in younger age with animals. It is appropriate to study the influence of production factors such as castration on meat quality, since their knowledge, will allow an improvement in it.Keywords: castration, age at slaughter, products of animal origin Calidad de la carne de ovinos de diferentes pesos y condición sexual RESUMEN.
