A total of 106 patients of osteoarthritis of knee were selected for the study. Out of 106 patients 26.41% were male and 73.58% were female. The female and male ratio is 2.78: 1. Mean age was 49.68 ± 9.16 years and house wives were maximum in number 75 (70.8%). They were divided into two groups, 52 patients in group–A, were treated with NSAID plus Exercise and another 54 patients in group-B, were treated with NSAID only. In both group patients were treated for six weeks duration. The improvement was assessed with WOMAC scoring system. Student’s‘t’ test was to see the level of significance. In present study, the patients groups those who received NSAID plus Exercise, improved more significantly (p= 0.001) than those who received NSAID only. So it can be concluded that quadriceps muscle strengthening exercise is effective in the patients with OA knee. Keyword: Osteoarthritis, Knee, Exercise. Inflammatory diseases of the thyroid can be classified into three broad categories: acute, subacute and chronic thyroiditis. Subacute disease includes granulomatous or De Quervains thyroiditis and lymphocytic thyroiditis or silent thyroiditis. The gland swells up and is very painful and tender. As thyroid hormones are discharged into the blood, patient becomes hyperthyroid clinically but the gland cannot take up iodine so the radioactive iodine uptake is very low. The hyperthyroidism generally resolves after a few weeks. The relief of pain by giving NSAID or steroids in this condition is so dramatic as to be almost diagnostic. A 40 year old man, hailing from Nawabganj, Dhaka was diagnosed as De Quervains thyroiditis and treated successfully. In this report, the case condition, procedures of diagnosis and treatment are reported in details.Mediscope Vol. 4, No. 1: Jan 2017, Page 35-37
Salmonella hepatitis is one of the atypical presentations of typhoid fever and can be defined as reversible involvement of liver during the course of typhoid fever. There have been more than 150 cases of salmonella hepatitis reported both in developed and developing countries. The documented incidence varies widely from 1 to 26% of patients with Typhoid fever. It presents with jaundice and tender hepatosplenomegaly. Investigation shows slightly raised transaminase levels with or without 5 adenosine neucleosidase and or decreased prothombin time index. It complicates into hepatic encephalopathy and bleeding diathesis. A positive culture for Salmonella from blood or stool is essential to differentiate Salmonella hepatitis from other causes of acute hepatitis. Hepatic pathology is characterized by the presence of typhoid nodules with marked hyperplasia of reticuloendothelial system. The ALT/LDH ratio < 9 is suggestive of Salmonella hepatitis which is > 9 in viral hepatitis. The prognosis is usually good as Salmonella hepatitis responses with specific antibiotic therapy and jaundice resolves with clinical improvement. The clinical course can be severe with high mortality (20%) sometime. In our country where enteric fever is endemic, the recognition of Salmonella hepatitis is of clinical importance .
