Regional variation in the risk of ventricular shunt revision exists, and young infants are at the highest risk for shunt failure. Risk factors for the duration of shunt survival differ between the initial and subsequent revisions.
High dose STS is well tolerated in children under 12 years of age. Further studies of STS in children are warranted to assess otoprotection and the impact of STS on platinum mediated efficacy.
