The unregulated nature of the web means that anyone can make content available on the web, some of which could be harmful to children and unsuspecting adults. Content filtering is aimed at blocking out undesirable material from reaching the end user. Most existing software content filters make use an access control list which involves some sort of manual search, gathering and classification of undesirable web sites so that the software filter can block the access of these URLs. In this paper, we describe an Offline filtering Agent in terms of its two main modules: automated web page crawling and intelligent classification modules.Experimental results based on 1250 web pages are presented to show the effectiveness of our system. On the testing set, the agent was able to achieve a correct acceptance rate of 97% and a correct reject rate of 92.6%..
Air pollution is known to cause a wide range of diseases that have led to countless cases of premature mortality. Although pollution in a massive scale is uncontrollable by individual inhabitant, the negative impact on health as a direct result on indoor air pollution can be reduced by appropriate preventive actions. Smart home technology allows ventilation to be controlled through condition-based monitoring of the air pollutant concentration in the room. This paper describes a prognostics framework that regulates in-room ventilation, the algorithm can be fed into a smart home control system for prevention of a number of respiratory diseases.
This paper discusses the technical details for adopting prognostics and health management (PHM) implementation in consumer healthcare wearable devices. Consumer healthcare appliances differ from medical devices in that they do not undergo the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval process. The main objective of deriving a reliability assessment and optimization scheme using prognostics and health management methodology is to utilize condition-based monitoring for preventive maintenance and minimize warranty repairs. The methodologies include physics-of-failure based self-cognizant prognostics for operational reliability assessment and resource management approach that takes into consideration the usage profile of individual devices.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
