This paper describes experiments in depositing p-Sic film onto SIC ceramics using a chemical vapor deposition surface treatment technique. The experimental results show that the best conditions for producing p-Sic thin film are not at a specific "point" but rather within a "region" in the C/Si-T graph; that X-ray diffraction can be used to monitor the thickness of the thin film; and that, for Sic ceramics, surface treatment can improve fracture strength (by about 20%), oxidation resistance (by a factor of about 5 ) , and resistance to heat damage. A simple model based on surface healing is presented, and two conditions for modifying ceramics are given.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
