Treatment plots were 6 ft × 2 ft, arranged in a RCB design, replicated 5 times. Treatments were applied 7 May. Triumph and Dursban were applied with a COypressurized backpack sprayer using 11003 nozzles, operating at 20 psi and delivering 20 gal/acre. Granular formulations were applied using a homemade salt shaker. All plots were irrigated with 0.25 inches of water immediately after treatment. Conditions at the time of treatment were: air temp., 27°C; thatch depth (natural), 0.5-0.75 inches; soil texture, silt loam; soil pH 5.6; wind speed 2-8 mph. Efficacy was evaluated 21 May using a sod cutter that excised the turf to a depth of 0.75 inches. The sod (6 ft × 1.5 ft) cut by the sod cutter was turned over and the number of grubs clinging to the grass roots and exposed on the ground was recorded.

Cotton was planted on 17 May at the Robert Fratesi farm in Jefferson County. Plots consisted of 8 rows (40 inch centers) X 50 ft. Treatments were arranged in a RCBD with 4 replications. Insecticide treatments were applied on 19 Jun, 2 Jul, and 15 Jul with a CO2 sprayer mounted on a John Deere 6000 hi-cycle. Total volume was 9.91 gpa at 25 psi using Teejet TXVS-6 nozzles on 20 inch spacings. Insect counts on the first 2 evaluation dates (19 Jul, 2 Aug) were made by whole plant examination of 14 row ft in the center of each plot. Insect counts on the last evaluation date (15 Aug) were made by randomly examining 50 squares and terminals throughout the plot.

Plots were 6 rows (38 inch centers) X 50 ft arranged in a RCBD with 4 replicationsEvaluations were made 1, 8, and 15 Jun. Thrips were counted by removing 5 plants/plot, washing the plants through a series of sieves and counting the thrips trapped by the last sieve. The center two rows ofeach plot were harvested on 3 Nov using a John Deere 2row picker.
