Moniliformin (1-hydroxy-cyclobut-1-ene-3,4-dione), either purified (0, 8, and 16 mg/kg of diet) or from culture of Fusarium moniliforme strain NRRL 6322 on corn grits (8, 16, and 64 mg/kg of diet) was fed to growing broiler chicks from 1 to 21 days of age. Up to 16 mg moniliformin/kg of diet from either source was without effect on chick weight gain, feed consumption, and mortality. Chicks fed 64 mg moniliformin/kg of diet from culture had reduced weight gain and feed consumption. Total daily moniliformin consumption by these chicks was nearly twice the reported single oral 50% lethal dose. Three of 10 chicks fed 64 mg/kg of moniliformin in the diet died. No lesions were found upon necropsy. The LD50 of purified moniliformin upon intravenous injection of 7-week-old female broiler chickens was 1.38 +/- .035 mg/kg body weight. Average time to death was 65 minutes. Progressive symptoms noted included lack of muscular coordination, tachypnea from moderate to severe followed by slow labored respiration, coma, terminal agonal struggle, and death.
From measurements of the cross sections for eẽ-~hadrons and the cross sections and forward-backward charge-asymmetries for e e-~e + e-,~+-and s-r at several centreof-mass energies around the Z" pole with the DELPHI apparatus, using approximately 150000 2 = 0.0003±0.0010and A~= 0.2508±1)0027. These values correspond to the electroweak parameters: PCV = 1.003±0.011and sin20~j 0.241±0.009.Within the Minimal Standard Model (MSM). the results can he expressed in terms of a single parameter: sin20~=0.2338±0.0027.All these values are in good agreement with the predictions ot the MSM. Fits yield 43< m 115, < 215 0eV at the 95Vr level. Finally, the measured values of "z and arc used to derive lower mass bounds for possible new particles. * The VD, which was operated during most of the 1990 data collection period, was used in the alignment procedure of the barrel tracking detectors, but was not used directly in the analysis described here. * Fits with the formula of ref. [26] tend to underestimate M~and T~by about 2 MeV and to overestimate a'1~by approximately 0.1%.
The correlations in rapidity in hadron production from e+e− annihilation near the Z0 resonance were studied by means of the method of factorial moments, using data taken with the DELPHI detector at LEP. The parton shower hadronization model was found to be in quantitative agreement with the data, in contrast with previous results at lower energies
of ensiled high-moisture corn. Appl. Microbiol. 14:31-34. 1966.-The effects of gaseous environment and temperature on the microbial populations of ensiled high-moisture corn were investigated. Molds, coliform bacteria, mesophilic aerobic bacteria, and yeasts were enumerated at intervals during ensiling. The numbers of aerobic bacteria were similar in structures containing different concentrations of gas and held at different temperatures. Coliform bacteria could not be detected after 10 days of ensiling. Mold numbers were relatively low, but were important in the deterioration of corn at the surface of the silos. Yeast and bacterial numbers increased rapidly following an initial aeration period, but no increase was observed after a second aeration series. Lack of a growth response to the second aeration series is believed related to the depletion of an assimilable carbon source.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
