A sample of 2,2, 3-trimethylpent ane prepared synthetically was purified by fractionation in an a utomatically controlled 6-m helix-packed column. The resulting product was of such purity that a good freezing point could be obt ained. The freezing point and melting point were determined in an apparatus in which t he rate of cooling or heating could be accurately controlled. Other properties measured included the boiling point and its variation with pressure, and refractive index and density and their variations with temperature.
