A description of the application of microcomputers to the governing of hydro turbines for electricity generation on the UK public electricity supply system is presented. Experience has been gained using experimental equipment fitted to operational generating plant and a dramatic improvement in response to system frequency disturbances has been demonstrated.
With the current trend towards the extensive use of minicomputers and micro-processors in industrial engineering systems, it is now necessary for educational establishments to give serious consideration to the presentation of the basic technology of computer con trol in engineering courses. This paper describes some experiments and projects involving compu ter control which have been carried out within the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at University of Glasgow. These illustrate ways in which some of the basic concepts of the subject have been successfully introduced to undergraduate students.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
